Description

Accompanying Claire Lavendhomme's retrospective exhibition, this book looks back on more than forty years of creation, revealing a visual language that is both rigorous and deeply personal. Between color, light, material, and movement, Claire Lavendhomme develops a sensitive approach to jewelry as an object of connection, thought, and presence.

Critical texts, essays, and interviews are interwoven to create a multifaceted portrait of the artist.

Contributions by curator Gaëlle Clark, art historian and co-director of BeCraft Ornella La Vaccara, jewelry designer Chloé Noyon, composer Pierre Relaño, and artistic director and curator Céline Robin of the Robert Mazlo Endowment Fund for Contemporary Art and Jewelry in Paris offer complementary perspectives on her practice: a poetic gaze, aesthetic analysis, philosophical approach, and biographical narrative compose a rich and embodied body of work.

A special focus is also given to Claire Lavendhomme's invitation to ceramist Antonino Spoto, with whom she engages in a series of pieces specially created for the exhibition.

THE ARTIST

Claire Lavendhomme was born in 1959 in Brussels, where she lives and works. Initially self-taught, she subsequently trained in jewelry at the Institut des Arts et Métiers in Brussels, then at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Arlon, as well as through several internships, notably with Ramon Puig Cuyàs and Christoph Zellweger. She has developed a sensitive body of work, informed by references to art history, philosophy, language, and materials.

Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions internationally, including: Schmuck (Munich), MAD (New York), Collect (London), and Joya (Barcelona).

THE EXHIBITION

Presented at BeCraft from November 16, 2025, to February 1, 2026, the exhibition traces the work of Claire Lavendhomme, a multidisciplinary artist and jewelry designer, from her earliest research to the present day, after twenty years of membership in the association. Claire loves these stories that belong to no one and that have existed since the dawn of time. With modesty and introversion, her work is a tribute to the archetype, whether form, idea, or material. A work of observation and scientific, historical, or personal research, blended with chance encounters and a deep conviction-that of a great house that all the arts occupy, including jewelry, which is vital.

As part of this retrospective, Claire Lavendhomme invites Antonino Spoto, a ceramist and member of BeCraft, to collaborate with her on a series of pieces created especially for the exhibition. This project is part of the monographic exhibition cycle initiated by BeCraft in 2023 (Thérèse Lebrun. Glaneuse de porcelaine).

This volume is part of the BeCraft collection dedicated to member artists. BeCraft is an association that brings together and promotes creators from the contemporary applied arts scene in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. This collection aims to document unique career paths, showcase demanding studio practices, and share sensitive works through a lasting edition.
