The Best of Punch Cartoons in Colour

ISBN: 9781853758560 (HB - E)

With a foreword by Quentin Blake. A feast of undiscovered pictorial treats from the pages of Punch - in glorious colour. Brings together for the first time a stunning collection of over 400 vibrant colour cartoons, illustrations, covers and caricatures published in the world's most famous humour magazine from the 1920s to the 1990s - most never reproduced since original publication. The large full-page format showcases treats like the dazzling Jazz Age hues of Fougasse, some of E H Shepard's most charming illustrations ever and Rowland Emett's crazily eccentric machines. Grouped in eras, there are works by H M Bateman, Arthur Watts, Anton, Russell Brockbank, Quentin Blake, Norman Thelwell, André François, George Adamson, Trog, Mike Williams, Stan Eales and many more. Superb covers from the 1950s-1960s follow the funny, poignant cartoons of WW2, while a host of special features include a look at the Royal Family from Prince Edward Albert to Princess Diana and Ronald Searle's magnificent series of caricatures, Heroes of Our Time. A companion to The Best of Punch Cartoons. 'A handsome book celebrating nearly a century's worth of Punch's brilliant illustrators, from Fougasse to Trogg and Quentin Blake, which holds up a mirror - humorous and telling - to ourselves and the society we inhabited.' --Daily Mail
