Who dares today to complain about snow or rain? Water and ice, sources of life as much as of disasters, are more than ever perceived as beneficial works of art at a time of global warming. The 70 images that make up Eaux fortes are nostalgic and precious witnesses of this.
In France, Scotland, India or Siberia, the photographer, a solitary traveler, hassucceeded in blurring time and our reference points. We get lost between day and night, summer and winter, north and south, melancholy and hope. "It is this bad weather of always, that of our rainy vacations, of our sorrows, of our joys, of our emotions, of our childhood memories that I photograph."
This sixth book that he dedicates to bad weather illustrates places, in town or in the country, from a new angle. More intimate thanks to the successive confinements, the photographer has experienced our isolation from the world and from human relationships in the bareness of the landscapes. His poetic universe has been strengthened, the power of the images has found a new, deeper meaning.
Shaped by the cinema, his gaze is attached to the torments of the elements: bad weather, water, snow and wind, compose phantasmagorical or dreamlike scenes, sometimes strange often peaceful.
The Maison Keller, chosen for the cover image, becomes the icon of a nature that upsets reality, modifying it according to the seasons. The places become characters. Their emotions find a way of expression towards the immobile spectators that we are, even as we in turn melt into these majestic theatrical settings. Time seems to stand still in front of such a spectacle.
