Valentin Hauri

No place but the one

ISBN: 9783775737159 (HB - E/ G)

Since 1994 Valentin Hauri (*1954 in Baden) has been creating his paintings "alla prima," meaning, in a work process without corrections or overpainting. Whatever does not satisfy the artist's eye after it has been completed is thrown out. He is often inspired by Art Brut or Outsider Art, whose authenticity fascinates Hauri. Not least because of these role models the meaning of the symbols in his paintings can be heftily debated. Art historical strategies alone cannot explain these works; emotion and intuition are required. No Place but the One, with essays by Konrad Bitterli, Daniel Morgenthaler, and Markus Stegmann, gathers six series of paintings from the last decade and two groups of more recent drawings. Exhibition schedule: Museum Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen, November 18, 2012-January 27, 2013
