The task of architectures is to facilitate the emergence of dedicated spaces in places. All other definitions - including the aforementioned definitions of inner and outer - aim toward this goal: we build for the sake of spaces. In dwelling, then, it is architectural spaces that we put to use. And that which is true for the building is true as well, and in the same manner, for the city: to facilitate the emergence of dedicated spaces in places is the task of urban planning as well! First, the objection that this ideography is far too optimistic, we can only counter through idealism; secondly, the objection that this typology is excessively pessimistic, we can only counter through realism: but precisely this ambivalence between fantasy and reason is the idea, program, and concept of Stella.
