Francesca Woodman's Notebook

ISBN: 9788836621170 (HB - E)

facsimile edition in a cardboard box with George Woodman's afterword Francesca Woodman (Denver, 1958 - New York, 1981) - sensitive and troubled American photographer, considered at our times one of the most intense artists in the XX century - produced, during her short life that she decided to interrupt at the age of 22, six artist's books. They are refined and evocative objects, created from old school notebooks found in Rome, in which she transcribed in an elegant and small handwriting various texts and poems, in French and in Italian, and on which she affixed a sequence of some of her photographs. A precious facsimile edition presents for the first time one of these notebooks, chosen by Francesca's family for its beauty. Black and white images are covered, like in the original notebook, by a translucent film that makes the contrast with the notebook paper even more evocative. This object shows, in the narrative sequence, how Francesca Woodman herself perceived her photographs, thus revealing an intimate and so far unaccessible aspect of this artist. An afterword by George Woodman, Francesca's father, completes the work.
