WHERE WE'RE AT! Other voices on gender rassemble le travail de photographes et vidéastes féminines d'origine culturelle en Afrique, Caraïbes et Pacifique, et qui développent le discours féminin dans leur art.
Conçue comme partie intégrale de l'Eté de la Photographie sur la thématique des relations entre les genres, cette exposition présente le travail d'artistes qui ont contribué de manière significative à la participation et la visibilité des femmes dans l'art depuis les années 80. Les oeuvres sélectionnées couvrent des sujets et débats actuels sur la question de l'égalité des sexes, l'auto-représentation, et le corps et la sexualité, dans le cadre des débats sur l'identité et la culture, à partir d'esthétiques, d'approches conceptuelles et processus créatif innovants. Where we're at ! est un état des lieux contemporain de diverses pratiques artistiques allant de l'intimiste aux formes d'activisme les plus singulières.
Parmi les artistes inclues : Hélène Amouzou (Togo/Belgique), Rehema Chachage (Tanzanie), Angèle Étoundi Essamba (Cameroun/Hollande), Cecilia Ferreira (Afrique du Sud), Katia Kameli (Algérie/France), Majida Khattari (Maroc/France), Shigeyuki Kihara (Samoa/Nouvelle Zélande), Michème Magema (RDC/France), Ato Malinda (Kenya), Zanele Muholi (Afrique du Sud), Maud Sulter (Ghana/Ecosse) et Alberta Whittle (Ecosse/Barbades).
Where we're at brings together women photographers and video artists of African, Caribbean and Pacific cultural background, developing gender discourses in their art. Conceived as part of the Summer of Photography 2014 centered on Gender Relations, the project presents the work of practitioners who have made significant contributions to the participation and visibility of women in the arts since the 1980s.
