Braco Dimitrijevic

ISBN: 9788836633722 (HB - E)

The volume, curated by Danilo Eccher and produced by GAM in Turin, is dedicated to the work of Braco Dimitrijevíc (Sarajevo, 1948), and offers a critical overview of artist's entire oeuvre, presenting his work in all its complexity. Between the 1960s and the 1970s, in Turin, Dimitrijevíc - who was gaining prominence on the London scene and internationally through his collaboration with Gian Enzo Sperone and contact with the many artists who gravitated around that gallery - became an active participant in the creative ferment that marked that decade for the city. It was in this period and climate that Dimitrijevi´c developed the work which this exhibition sets out to trace, through key stages in his career that range from his earliest to his most recent pieces. His practice, which relies on various media, from installation to billboard photography to sculpture, turns a critical gaze on monumental art and our relationship to history. As extensively discussed and documented by the critical essays and images in the catalogue, Dimitrijevi´c's practice has contributed over the years to the international debate and has points of contact with many different movements - from conceptualism, to public art, to installation art - seeking out a direct dialogue with the viewer and posing openended questions that revolve not only around the world of art, but also ethics and history.
