Arnaud (b. 1977), is a versatile artist: he makes drawings, ceramic work, writes poetry but is also active as a dancer and performer. In each of these media, his work excels in concealment, omission, slowing down, pausing, omission or stilling.
In dance and in theater, we recognize the artist Arnaud who underscores the cry in silence. By slowing down, he makes the audience dream of movement.The power of Arnaud's drawings lies mostly in the space he does not draw. The drawing are drawn with a very soft pencil and therefore look very fragile.
Arnaud handles his media in a very sensitive way. His work comes about with a great deal of concentration and patience. His ceramic work includes busts of characters midway between human and animal, where some fairy tale connotation was never far away.
For this book, the publisher made a sophisticated selection of self-portraits and drawings of people from Arnaud's surroundings. Each drawing is alone on a page, sometimes opposite another drawing but sometimes all by itself. The choice of lots of space is deliberate; we don't want to show an abundance of drawings.
