Matisse at Villa Le Rêve

Henri Matisse lived at the Villa Le Rêve in Vence from 1943 to 1948. Here he created a sensuous world, bringing to Vence all the objects without which he could not draw and paint - jugs, vases, tables and chairs, shells, fabrics. Hélène Adant, a young Russian photographer, often came to visit her cousin, who was Matisse's model and assistant. This beautifully designed book reproduces over 50 of Adant's 'backstage' photographs, as well as several of Matisse's famous Vence interiors in coulour and drawings.
