Avant-garde Porcelain from Revolutionary Russia

  • T & H Distributed
  • Expo :, Somerset House
  • by Tamara Kudryavtseva
Immediately following the Revolution of 1917, Russia's oldest porcelain factory opened up its workshops to contemporary artists. The first original example of each new piece went into the Factory's Porcelain Museum - and this was how one of the world's best collections of avant-garde porcelain was born. In all, some 300 pieces of porcelain from 1918 to the mid-1930s are illustrated in full colour, while about 70 drawings offer a fascinating insight into the artists' working methods.
