Since its debut in 1964, the Pirelli Calendar has been a phenomenal success. For over thirty years, the photographers of the calendar have attempted to define a specific idea of 'the beauty of the world' through images; a subjective and personal idea of photography, which must inevitably be influenced, time and time again, by fashion, common every-day living, editorial conventions and, naturally, by economic necessities, both of the company and of the tourist industry in general.
The finest photographers of our time - Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovits, Robert Freeman among many others - have participated. The models are equally well known: Iman, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Christy Turlington , to name a few.
The latest volume on the Pirelli calendars investigates the evolution of the aesthetic sense from the sixties through to the nineties, displaying the most beautiful photographs ever to appear on the calendar.
