The Tavernier Book of Hours

KBR, ms. IV 1290

  • Kon. Boudewijnstichting
  • Expo: 27/09/02-20/11/02, Nassaukapel,Brussels
  • by Ed. : D. Allard
This fifteenth century Book of Hours (c. 1450) was purchased in 2001 at a public auction in London. It was made on the instructions of the Duke or Burgundy or someone close to him. The 27 large miniatures which illustrate the book are the work of Jan de Tavernier, an artist from the Burgundian Netherlands who worked in Tournai, Ghent and Oudenaarde. This work is unique because the original binding of the manuscript, signed Anthonious van Gavere, has been preserved.
