Collection 'Livres d'Art et de Photographie'

  • Lettre Volée - Art et Photographie
  • Expo: 15/09/04-28/11/04, Le Plateau, Paris
  • by Commissaire: Eric Corne

Description

Eric Poitevin is known above all for his landscapes, close-up views of undergrowth and fir trees, offering a microscopic vision of infinity and the proliferation of signs of nature. These images, presented in all-over format, confuse perception and disrupt the possible distance of the viewpoint faced with their frontality. Through their constraint of light, they capture the vegetal subject at the closest possible range, in order to better distance and emancipate themselves from it and form images approaching Pollock's gestural abstraction and drippings. By increasing the number of photographs, Eric Poitevin aims to make us forget the landscape and the natural element to reveal to us the true nature of the image; its sensory essence, depth and time. For this publication, Eric Poitevin has chosen to present a series of recent, unpublished photographs of nudes. "These reclining, full-size bodies, lying on the lower edge with their light monumentality, sum up the horizons of your entire oeuvre. A prolific entomologist of the living (rather than a taxidermist of nature to be stuffed), in these clear, luminous images of the crest and flesh of these bodies, between fall and apparition, you have suspended a moment in the precipitation of what is visible. Diffuse oscillations of the mind, beyond
places and bodies." (Eric Corne)

Eric Poitevin (1961) an internationally famous French art photographer has presented numerous solo and joint exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Munich, Athens, Montreal and Amsterdam. A number of monographs and catalogues have already been devoted to his work.
