Paul Seawright. Field Notes

Ce photographe irlandais (1965) a connu la gloire et la renommée au début des années 1990 avec des séries telles que "Orange Order", "Police Force" et "Secterian Murder". Une ouvre documentaire, réservant une place centrale aux conflits régnant en Irlande du Nord. Dans ces séries, nous ne découvrons pourtant pas le crime brutal, mais plutôt les traces indirectes, suggestives de la violence. Une approche que Seawright applique également dans son ouvre ultérieure consacrée à l'Afghanistan et à l'Afrique, qui a fait de lui l'un des photographes les plus célèbres de sa génération, suite entre autres à ses prises de position nuancées concernant la signification actuelle de la photographie documentaire.

In the early 1990s, this Irish photographer (1965) achieved name and fame through series such as 'Orange Order', 'Police Force' and 'Sectarian Murder'. Documentary work with the Northern Irish troubles as their focus. Yet we do not see violent crime here, but the indirect, suggestive traces of violence. This is an approach that Seawright also uses in his later work on Afghanistan and Africa and that makes him one of the most relevant photographers of his generation, not in the least because of his nuanced standpoint on the current significance of documentary photography.
