A groundbreaking and always controversial musician, M.I.A. is an influential artist and an important cultural figure of the last decade. Here is a documentation of her entire visual output and a telling of her story in collages, photos, sketches, and notes from her early years as a visual artist through to her hugely successful three albums, mixtapes, and into her latest, fourth album release and tour. The book is comprised of original artwork, original video treatments, and behind-the-scenes photos (on tour and in the studio). Also included are assorted lyrics and descriptions of her creative process for each album campaign-from recording sessions to her videos and travel photos on set to the creation of her costumes through to the live performances. On the eve of the release of her fourth album, M.I.A. approaches this visual retrospective the same way she approaches her music-mashing up and remixing the graphics, illustrations, and provocative photos from the media and internet that have influenced her to create something new that is uniquely hers.
