Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2016

This book provides a unique opportunity to see an inspiring range of portraits from contemporary photographers selected from thousands of submissions. The works included are not only about the sitters but also reveal the outstanding skill of the photographers, in capturing a moment in time, and conveying something of the spirit of those photographed. This year’s In Focus display, the second in the competition’s history ,features previously unseen photographs by Cristina de Middel that will be exhibited alongside those of the finalists. The works are reproduced in the catalogue, together with other series by de Middel and an interview about her life and work. With her photojournalistic background, De Middel is recognised as one of the most innovative photographers working today–she frequently combines documentary work with storytelling and artifice. Fully illustrated in colour throughout, the book also features all the selected entries, comments and insights from the judges and interviews with the prizewinners.
