Description
Marco Bakker and Alexandre Blanc established BABL in Switzerland in 1992. Their designs are marked by modesty in manner and attitude, yet reflecting their own high demands to the built environment. In their buildings and projects, BABL aim to refine wide-ranging references and to lay narrative trails. Darwin's Theatre: BABL at Work documents some twenty-five years of work by the firm and demonstrates their approach and vision through a selection of thirty-four built and unrealised designs. Inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder's famous painting of the Tower of Babel, the book is conceived as a chronological spiral stairway to heaven that represents an evolution of eternal reiterating questions considering constructed continuities in space and time.
