Description

The catalog accompanies the first comprehensive European solo exhibition of New York-based artist Adam Pendleton. In his paintings, drawings, and other works, Pendleton uses letters, words, drips, splashes, sprays, and collected images as primary materials. His work is a kind of continuous writing in which language, movement, memory, and gesture are recorded, transposed, and overwritten. He blurs the boundaries between seeing and reading, between representation and abstraction, between painting, drawing, photography and film. In 2008, he began to articulate his work Black Dada, a visual project and an evolving investigation into the relationships between blackness, abstraction, and the avant-garde. The catalog was created in close collaboration with the artist and his chosen graphic designer, and includes works by Adam Pendleton in color for the first time.
