Description

The book accompanying the exhibition "Kafka: 1924" is an invitation to a journey through a Kafkaesque universe.

On the 100th anniversary of Kafka's death, this catalogue gathers artistic positions from the 20th and 21st century that implicitly or explicitly refer back to his writings. Specially created prose pieces accompany selected works of contemporary art, the book design is a tribute to the anniversary and modelled on the typographical form of the first publication of Kafka's "A Country Doctor." Many artists have been inspired by Kafka's central themes of shame, guilt and powerlessness, as well as by his characteristic macabre sense of humour.

The catalogue is aimed at a broad audience, with cartoons introducing the themes and illustrating different facets of Kafka's protagonists.
