Description
Following Lutz Braun's works on paper, this volume presents his paintings over a period of 25 years in 187 coloured plates which trace the development of his artistic practice.
"Formally, every picture is a reflection of crisis, struggle, progress and failure, but my appeal is to embrace political subject matter. In painting, as in all art, we can imagine a liberated society, just as we may sharply criticize capitalistic structures and the destruction they bring about." (Lutz Braun) In Braun's works a position marked by an awareness of crises and history emerges; in the face of the prevailing social order, his painting turns away from Expressionism and Romanticism, from which it once emerged in terms of colour and narrative.
His approach ranges from melancholy introspection to passionately critical, though hopeful social reflection.
