Description
For the first time in two decades, Karl Blossfeldt's (1865-1932) oeuvre is being presented in this scope, featuring 271 original prints. This impressive exhibition unfolds a photographic body of work that was developed in the context of art education and only discovered as an independent artistic approach a few years before Blossfeldt's death. Today, his work is considered a classic in the history of photography, often mentioned alongside August Sander and Albert Renger-Patzsch. Blossfeldt's photographs are primarily regarded as prototypical for the New Objectivity and New Vision movements.
in the second week of September 2024, this major Karl Blossfeldt publication will be released. On 600 pages, Karl Blossfeldt. Photography in the Light of Art features, for the first time ever since his legendary 1928 Art Forms in Nature, new images, as well as essays in German and English.
The book presents a total of 733 illustrations in color: hitherto unplublished photographs of plants, of Blossfeldt's meticulous plant preparations and his bronze plant sculptures. Documenting the entire collection of the Berlin University of the Arts Archive, it is a sensation for both Berlin and the international trade.
It is the new material that makes this publication so special. It will be of interest to botanists, art and photo historians, and collectors across the world.
