How does art smell? How does life smell? This publication is the distillate of an interdisciplinary symposium held in the Museum Tinguely in April 2015 in conjunction with the exhibition Belle Haleine - The Scent of Art and dealt with the fascinating and fleeting phenomenon of odor. The contributions from biology, chemistry, anthropology, and scent research, as well as from legal, literary, art, and cultural sciences, sheds light on the potential of our olfactory organ and unearth surprising facts from the fascinating world of odors. They go into depth on the olfactory dimension of art, open up perspectives from other disciplines on smell and the sense of smell, and prompt reflection on our frequently neglected and at the same time so very important and exciting sensory capacity.
