Emil Cimotti

Die Papierreliefs

  • Kehrer
  • by Edited by Christa Lichtenstern and Joachim Stracke
This book shows the paper reliefs created by Emil Cimiotti in the years 2013 - 2015. Their particular characteristic is that they utilize the effects of paper as a sculptural material in a sensual manner: whether torn, folded, or crumpled - every paper state implements color in a different way. Kept in gleaming monochrome, the color gradients accentuate the directional thrusts of the folds or of the intuitively obtained humps and hollows.

Description

This book shows the paper reliefs created by Emil Cimiotti in the years
2013 – 2015. Their particular characteristic is that they utilize the effects of paper as a sculptural material in a sensual manner: whether torn, folded, or crumpled – every paper state implements color in a different way. Kept in gleaming monochrome, the color gradients accentuate the directional thrusts of the folds or of the intuitively obtained humps and hollows. The emerging space thus remains constantly in progress and therefore eludes any form of constructivism. Cimiotti’s new paper reliefs form a surprising contribution to his late work. They fall in line with the successive innovations employed by the sculptor not only to co-determine the new departure in sculpture in around 1960, but also to set new standards to this day.

Emil Cimiotti was born in 1927 in Göttingen; he lives in Wolfenbüttel and works in Hedwigsburg.
