Description

When you think of underwater photography, the first thing that comes to mind is the ocean, but in this case it is something completely different. Barbara Cole uses water to disrupt gravity and visual habits; her models, mainly women, float, glide, and spin through the waves, shrouded in ethereal fabrics or even no more than a veil of air bubbles. Cole's perfectly rendered works of art are collected by public and private institutions and have been exhibited around the world. Over time, her photographs have grown progressively closer to paintings. What her motifs share is the visualization of transformation, freed from the concept of time, in a magically poetic visual language.
