Description
Roger Ballen. Call of the Void is the eighth in a series of exhibitions at Museum Tinguely under the title Danse macabre with works responding to Jean Tinguely's work Mengele Totentanz. In his often disturbing, unsettling photographs and installations, Ballen examines the human psyche and asks questions about being and becoming. Call of the Void consists of two parts: The walls are hung with photographs from Ballen's last analog series, Asylum of the Birds and Roger's Rats, while the center of the space is dominated by a shack with a mysterious door. Once inside, one is confronted with haunting depictions, sounds, and objects forcing the viewers to face their own void.
Born 1950 in New York and based in Johannesburg, South Africa, since 1982, Roger Ballen is one of the most important photographers of his generation. He has published over twenty-five books and his work is represented in the most prominent museums around the world.
