Description

Simonetta Ferrante (Milan, 1930), from a very early age, developed close working relations and friendships with leading members of an international circle of graphic artists, designers and photographers present in the Lombard region as well as abroad. She began her career in graphic design with Max Huber, on the advice of Pier Giacomo Castiglioni she attended the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, she worked with Bob Noorda and then Bruno Munari, and collaborated with Giovanna Graf and Carlo Pollastrini for Supermercati Esselunga, Galgano, Fotorex, Elettrocarbonium, 3M-Minnesota, Mondadori, Rizzoli and DataControl. She then turned to etching, painting and collage, artist's books, installations and, in particular, she is fascinated by the art of calligraphy. These various facets of her work are complementary and should be seen as the phases of a single artistic aesthetic directed towards the study of sign, colour, rhythm and writing, between graphics, design, art and calligraphy.
