Description

The volume accompanies the first solo exhibition of Mexican artist Teresa Margolles (Culiacan, 1963) hosted in Italy. The painter - who in addition to visual art is dedicated to photography, video and performance, and who has training as a forensic pathologist - is among the artists who have treated the theme of the brutality of drug trafficking in Mexico. With a particular aptitude for raw realism, Teresa Margolles’s poetics bears witness to the complexities of contemporary society, now crumbling from the alarming proportions of an organized crime that is tearing the whole world and especially Mexico, considered one of the most dangerous countries in the world. With a minimalistic stylistic grammar, but with a strong and almost overbearing impact on a conceptual level, Margolles’ work addresses the taboos of death and violence, investigated in relation to the social and economic inequalities present in many of our daily realities.
