Description
This volume gathers twenty-two critical essays and an interview, written between the 1970s and the last solo exhibition of Pino Pinelli, Pittura oltre il limite (Painting beyond the Limit), held at Palazzo Reale and at Gallerie d’Italia in Milan in summer 2018. From the views of the exhibitions that accompany the essays, one can realise that the artist has always conceived set-up in a musical sense – his sketches remind of a score, where rhythms, pauses and chords can be perceived in relation to space, and where colours are primary or complementary, with white, grey or black pauses or counterpoints. Colour has an absolute tone; it is an archetype of itself, aiming at the greatest emotional and expressive intensity. The artist wrote, “I played my life, taking chances, tirelessly and constantly trying to seize the mystery of light in PAINTING, of its pulsating and vital breath, which is its key element.”
