Peder Balke (1804-1887) is one of the most outstanding artists of Northern European Romanticism.
Born in the inland of Norway, Balke was originally trained as a house painter
Knut Ljøgodt is presently Director of NIA – Nordic Institute of Art, Oslo – an organisation founded to stimulate the research and promotion of historical and modern art from the Scandinavian countries in an international context. Ljøgodt has been a Curator in the National Gallery, Oslo
