Description

Fascinated by the trees, their shape and their symbolic meaning, in this book Irene Kung portrays old-growth and young plants, proving her great skill. The attention for the light and for its application is a key point in the structure of her compositions: nothing seems to be left to chance and every leaf is shown in full detail. Therefore, the photographer creates a unique atmosphere surrounding each tree, narrating sun, rain or wind, taking photos of the particular or the entire log, framing the foliage from above or frontally, always trying to highlight in the best way the special features of the plant she has chosen. The striking images led the observer in a poetical and suspended dimension: in every picture, Irene Kung makes an effort to catch the spirit of the place and to transmit it on photographic paper, as pure, intact and free from any contamination and urban interference as it should be. Hers is a solitary process, made up by wait and pause, seeking the perfect photo. She does not escape from the void, she creates it on purpose and the void slowly embraces the subject becoming itself protagonist of the image.
