Published jointly with Vatican Museums PublicationsIn 2016 the publisher Scripta Maneant were allowed to undertake a new photographic coverage of the frescoes and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The results can now be seen in this book which displays the extraordinary gigapixel resolution of the photographs. The Capella Sistina was built for Pope Sixtus IV in the 15thCentury, but Julius ii commissioned Michelangelo to paint it ceiling in 1508. The frescoes contain over 300 individual figures, were completed in four years and are renowned as supreme masterpieces, perhaps the most famous works of art in the world, particularly The Creation of Adam. Other Renaissance artists worked on the frescoes including Botticelli, Perugino, Ghirlandaio, Pinturicchio and Signorelli. This books brings their work to light in a most extraordinary manner
