Contrasten, tegenstellingen en verschillen maken het leven boeiend, ook al is het bewaren van een evenwicht tussen twee tegengestelde krachten niet altijd eenvoudig. Bloemsierkunst, en Ikebana in het bijzonder, is vaak al een evenwichtsoefening op zich. Ikebana streeft naar harmonie tussen rechte en gebogen lijnen, naar een juist evenwicht tussen het wegnemen en toevoegen van elementen, een middenweg tussen het naleven van de regels en het breken ervan. Opposites Attract gebruikt het idee van 'tegenstelling' of 'contrast' als uitgangspunt. Vertrekkend van een antoniemenpaar maken meer dan 150 internationale ikebanisten telkens inspirerende en confronterende schikkingen. De verschillende manieren waarop deze contrasten in natuurlijke materialen worden vertaald, getuigen niet alleen van de creativiteit en vindingrijkheid van de kunstenaars maar ook van de onuitputtelijke mogelijkheden van Ikebana.
