Description

Allora & Calzadilla, Vaughn Bell, Joseph Beuys, Guillaume Bijl, Ross Bleckner, Gillian Brett, Dorota Buczkowska, Damien Cadio, Chih Chiu, David Claerbout, Christine Clinckx, Caroline Coolen, Peter De Cupere, Anuna De Wever, Daniël Dewaele, Lise Duclaux, Nick Ervinck, Tanya Goel, Joanna Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, Eckart Hahn, Paul Harfleet, Riitta Ikonen & Karoline Hjorth... En bijdragen van: Michel Dewilde, Valérie Trouet, prof. Dr. George McKay, Anuna De Wever en Philippe Daelemans.

What is man's impact on nature, and how does it affect our environment?

The ambitious exhibition Rebel Garden forces us to step outside the confines of traditional museum spaces and explore three different locations to delve into the complex relationship between mankind and nature. From ancient to contemporary art, this exhibition tackles the urgent issue of the climate crisis. The recurring theme of the 'garden' - a powerful symbol of nurturing, creation, and resistance - links together the three locations of Rebel Garden: the Groeninge Museum, the Gruuthuse Museum, and the St John's Hospital Museum. Gardens act as real-time indicators of the planet's state, offering both an idealized vision of our way of life and a space where the consequences of ecological changes are becoming increasingly visible. Rebel Garden serves as a starting point to examine our intricate connection with nature, addressing timely themes such as global warming's impact, the alarming sixth mass extinction, climate activism, humanity's symbiosis with nature, and the dynamic between artists and gardens.

With artworks by a.o. Allora & Calzadilla, Vaughn Bell, Joseph Beuys, Guillaume Bijl, Ross Bleckner, Gillian Brett, Dorota Buczkowska, Damien Cadio, Chih Chiu, David Claerbout, Christine Clinckx, Caroline Coolen, Peter De Cupere, Anuna De Wever, Daniël Dewaele, Lise Duclaux, Nick Ervinck, Tanya Goel, Joanna Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, Eckart Hahn, Paul Harfleet, Riitta Ikonen & Karoline Hjorth...
