The city architect of Ghent, Louis Roelandt (1786-1864), built the Aula Academica as the headquarter and official meeting point of the national University of Ghent. Since then, countless festivities, decorations and ceremonies have taken place under the cupola of this building. Up to this day, it remains a landmark in the historic city centre of Ghent.
