Description
This book sheds light on the Belgian pavilions for the World's Fairs in Paris 1937 and New York 1939-40. Both buildings were designed by teams that were headed by Henry van de Velde, one of the founding fathers of modern architecture in Belgium. After the 1939 New York World's Fair, the Belgian pavilion was re-erected on the campus of the Afro American Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. 70 years after its reconstruction, the building is badly in need of restoration. This publication offers all necessary information, in words and many images, to gain full insight into the complexity of this fascinating but hitherto unknown adventure. For this book research has been done in more than 10 archives and private collections in Belgium and the USA.
