Peter Morrens

  • Oktober Publications
  • by Author: Peter Morrens, vormgeving: Atelier Sven Beirnaert
Peter Morrens' practice unites language, sound and image in a wide range of media: from paintings and drawings to photographs, installations and performances. With disruptive humour and poignant images, the artist questions the things around him. Morrens works intuitively and associatively. He uses coincidence, doubt and unexpected links to shape his oeuvre, or rather his oeeeeeeuuuuvre. For it is an unruly whole, doubting, expanding and reinventing itself regularly.

MONOGRAPH IN OCCASION OF PETER MORRENS’ RETROSPECTIVE
IN M LEUVEN, IN WHICH PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS,
INSTALLATIONS, OBJECTS AND VIDEO CONVERGE

Peter Morrens' practice unites language, sound and image in a wide range of media: from paintings and drawings to photographs, installations and performances. With disruptive humour and poignant images, the artist questions the things around him. Morrens works intuitively and associatively. He uses coincidence, doubt and unexpected links to shape his oeuvre, or rather his oeeeeeeuuuuvre. For it is an unruly whole, doubting, expanding and reinventing itself regularly.
This monograph, published on the occasion of Peter Morrens' retrospective at M Leuven, offers insight into this diverse artistic practice that spans more than 35 years. Richly illustrated, the book collects existing and new work, room views and archive material. A conversation between curator Eva Wittocx and the artist and an essay by Ronald Van de Sompel are complemented by poems by Lieke Marsman and Hans Magnus Enzensberger. This way images, poetry and texts merge, as in Morrens' oeuvre, into an organic whole.
