Livraison Magazine No. 4

Open Landscape / Closed Rooms

  • T & H Distributed
Livraison No 4 explores private spaces, places of memory and topographies of the mind both photographically and philosophically. It tries to unravel what a place actually is. Is it even possible to come up with a stable formula or definition of it? Or is what we understand as ‘place’ a much more haunting, elusive entity? The heterogenous mix of images and texts that appear in this issue seems to suggest the latter. But as surely as night follows day, Livraison doesn’t limit itself to one form of expression.

Description

Livraison No 4 explores private spaces, places of memory and topographies of the mind both photographically and philosophically. It tries to unravel what a place actually is. Is it even possible to come up with a stable formula or definition of it? Or is what we understand as ‘place’ a much more haunting, elusive entity? The heterogenous mix of images and texts that appear in this issue seems to suggest the latter. But as surely as night follows day, Livraison doesn’t limit itself to one form of expression. The secret personalites of some are perfectly complemented by the secret appearances of others. In Livraison No 4, 69 photographers, including Bela Borsodi, Helmut Lang, Sølve Sundsbø, Richard Burbridge and Viviane Sassen, manifest their visions of secret identities by using masks to conceal the real identity of their objects, create a sort of dualism, erase or enhance the person behind the mask and give birth to a new identity.
