Risquons-Tout: Contemporary Artists Venture

Risquons-Tout is een ambitieuze, thematische groepstentoonstelling die het potentieel van overtreding en onvoorspelbaarheid verkent. Ze onderzoekt hoe kunst de homogenisering van het denken, in de inmiddels beruchte echokamers van onze overvolle infosfeer, uitdaagt.

Risquons-Tout presenteert enkele van de meest innovatieve en invloedrijke kunstenaars en auteurs die momenteel actief zijn in de Eurocore regio die zich uitstrekt van Amsterdam, Parijs, Keulen, Düsseldorf tot Londen, met Brussel in het centrum. De titel is ontleend aan een gehucht aan de Belgisch-Franse grens, een echte maar ongedefinieerde ruimte van overgang, doorgang en informele uitwisselingen, met name smokkel. De uitgenodigde kunstenaars verhouden zich tot verschillende dynamieken van overbruggen, doortrekken, vertalen en overschrijden. Zo doorprikken ze de veilige filterbubbels, opgewekt door voorspellende algoritmes ontworpen om elk risico te vermijden, of het nu intellectueel, financieel, emotioneel of fysiek is. De geografische en politieke reikwijdte van de tentoonstelling richt zich op de wereldwijde connectiviteit, transnationale circulatie en diasporische bewegingen van vandaag.

Risquons-Tout zal het hele WIELS-gebouw bezetten en zich uitstrekken tot enkele tentoonstellings- en performanceruimtes in de buurt. Het tentoonstelling bevat werken van 38 internationaal erkende of opkomende kunstenaars en stelt een rijk pallet aan praktijken voor die een al te makkelijke categorisering weerstaan.

Risquons-Tout zal eveneens een performatief gedeelte omvatten, en een ‘Open School’, die zal fungeren als laboratorium voor kunstenaars en wetenschappers om vragen over risico, onvoorspelbaarheid en grenzen aan te pakken via een reeks alternatieve methodes van kennisoverdracht.

Risquons-Tout est une exposition de groupe ambitieuse qui explore le potentiel de la transgression et de l’imprévisible. L’exposition se penche sur la manière dont l’art peut défier l’homogénéisation de la pensée dans les tristement célèbres chambres d’écho des sphères de (sur)information.

Risquons-Tout présente certains des artistes et auteurs les plus innovants et influents de la région de l’Eurocore qui s’étend de Bruxelles, à Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Düsseldorf et Londres. Le titre fait référence à un lieu-dit situé à la frontière franco-belge, un espace liminal de transition, de passages, d’échanges informels et de contrebande. Les artistes invités abordent différentes dynamiques de connections, de passages, de traduction et de transgression. Ils éclatent ainsi les bulles protectrices générées par les algorithmes de prédiction, ces outils conçus pour éviter le risque, qu’il soit d’ordre intellectuel, financier, affectif ou physique. La portée géographique et politique de l’exposition aborde la connectivité globale, la circulation transnationale et les mouvements de diasporas existants aujourd’hui.

Risquons-Tout occupera l’entièreté du bâtiment du WIELS et plusieurs espaces d’exposition et de performance adjacents. Les œuvres de 38 artistes reconnus internationalement ou émergents, seront présentées et proposeront une riche panoplie de pratiques artistiques défiant la simple catégorisation. Risquons-Tout comprendra également un volet performatif et une Open School à travers laquel les artistes, étudiants, chercheurs et experts pourront aborder les questions de la transgression, de l’imprévisibilité et des frontières à travers des méthodes alternatives de transmission du savoir.

Risquons-Tout is an ambitious, thematic group exhibition that explores the potential of transgression and unpredictability. It examines how art challenges the homogenisation of thought in the now infamous echo chambers of our overcrowded info-sphere.

Risquons-Tout presents some of the most innovative and influential artists and authors from the Eurocore region, which extends between Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Düsseldorf and London, with Brussels at its centre. The title is borrowed from a place located on the Belgian-French border, a real yet liminal space of transition, passage and informal exchanges, notably smuggling. The invited artists negotiate different dynamics of bridging, passing, translating and transgressing. In doing so they burst the safe bubbles generated by prediction algorithms, designed to avoid any risk, whether intellectual, financial, emotional or physical. The exhibition’s geographic and political scope addresses today’s global connectivity, trans-national circulation and diasporic movements.

Risquons-Tout will occupy the entire WIELS building and range out into neighbouring exhibition and performance spaces. It will present the works of 38 internationally recognised or emerging artists. The exhibition proposes a rich array of practices that defy easy categorisation. Risquons-Tout will also include a performative section and an Open School that will serve as a laboratory for artists and scholars to draw upon questions of risk, unpredictability and borders through a range of alternative methods for the transmission of knowledge
