Collegium Vocale Gent – Philippe Herreweghe

In 1970 richtte Philippe Herreweghe Collegium Vocale Gent op, waarmee hij zich toelegt op compo­sities van Johann Sebastian Bach en Duitse barok­muziek. Het ensemble paste als een van de eerste nieuwe inzichten over de uitvoering van barokmuziek toe op de vocale muziek en verwierf in nauwelijks enkele jaren tijd wereldfaam. Dit jaar viert Philippe Herreweghe zijn 75ste verjaardag met een prachtig boek waarin hij terugblikt op zijn leven en vruchtbare carrière als dirigent. Fotograaf Stephan Vanfleteren reist mee naar het Toscaanse zomerfestival Col­legium Vocale Crete Senesi en brengt het ensemble en zijn dirigent op meesterlijke wijze in beeld. In zijn visuele interpretatie is een centrale rol weggelegd voor religiositeit.

Philippe Herreweghe (°1947) is artistiek directeur van Collegium Vocale Gent. Als dirigent is hij ook verbonden aan het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra en het Orchestre des Champs-Élysées. Daarnaast is hij een veelgevraagde gastdirigent van orkesten zoals het Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, het Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, het Scottish Chamber Orchestra, het Tonhalle Orchester Zürich en de Staatskapelle Dresden.

Highlights include works by old masters such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Joris Hoefnagel, Hendrik Goltzius, Pieter Paul Rubens, Anthony Van Dyck and Jacob Jordaens.
To date, however, most of the collection has been little studied and is virtually unknown to the general public. In order to introduce these important works of art to a wide audience, this luxurious publication brings together a selection of the hundred most beautiful master drawings from the collection.
This richly illustrated book, written by thirty specialists from Belgium and other countries, is sure to become a new reference work on Flemish and Dutch drawing from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century.
