Ben Sledsens

Kunstenaar Ben Sledsens (°1991) combineert een diepgaande kennis van de beeldtraditie met zijn eigen mythologie. Met zijn grootscha­lige canvassen toont hij ons fragmenten uit zijn imaginaire wereld, een Utopia waarin hij zelf wil leven. Zijn kleuren en herinterpretaties van het landschap doen denken aan kunstenaars als Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Claude Monet, Henri Rousseau en Pieter Bruegel de Oude. Hoewel zijn landschappen, portretten, histo­rische en dagelijkse taferelen een idyllische uitstraling hebben, schuilt in zijn taferelen ook een zekere spanning en mysterie. Zijn composi­ties bouwt hij steeds op rond een moment van climax met een open begin en einde. Door het hergebruik van motieven, thema's, objecten en poses creëert Sledsens een intrigerende puzzel van referenties en bouwt hij een herkenbaar, coherent, romantisch en utopisch oeuvre uit. Deze publicatie bundelt Sledsens' recentste werk, van 2018 tot nu.
Ben Sledsens verschijnt naar aanleiding van zijn vierde solotentoonstelling bij Tim Van Laere Gallery, van 1 september tot 8 oktober 2022.

Although his landscapes, portraits, and historical and daily scenes have an idyllic appearance, there is also a certain tension and mystery in his scenes. He always builds up his compositions around a moment of climax with an open beginning and end. By reusing motifs, themes, objects and poses, Sledsens creates an intriguing puzzle of references and builds a recognizable, coherent, romantic and utopian oeuvre.
