Dennis Tyfus

De praktijk van de Antwerpse kunstenaar Dennis Tyfus (°1979) omvat een breed scala aan artistieke media, gaande van tekeningen, sculpturen, installaties, video's, magazines, boeken, muziek, vinylplaten, tatoeages, zijn eigen radioprogramma, concerten en performances. Door elementen uit zijn persoonlijke psyche te combineren met verschillende aspecten uit de hoge en lage cultuur en deze op een gelijkaardige manier te benaderen, creëert Tyfus een universum waarin het persoonlijke, het alledaagse en het unheimliche samenkomen. In zijn oeuvre vloeit alles in elkaar over, zonder vaste definitie, begin of einde. Daarmee leunt hij sterk aan bij het oeuvre van kunstenaars zoals Dieter Roth, Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw en Wim T. Schippers. Dit boek bundelt een ruime selectie uit het oeuvre van Dennis Tyfus.

Beautiful work from the maverick world of artist Dennis Tyfus . The activity of the Antwerp artist Dennis Tyfus (b. 1979) encompasses a wide range of artistic media, from drawings, sculptures, installations and videos through to magazines, books, music, vinyl records, tattoos, his own radio programme, concerts and performances. By combining elements of his personal psyche with different aspects of high and low-brow culture and taking a similar approach to them, Tyfus creates a world in which the personal, the everyday and the uncanny come together. Everything coalesces in his oeuvre, without fixed definition, beginning or end. In this respect he is significantly influenced by the work of artists such as Dieter Roth, Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw and Wim T. Schippers. This book brings together a generous selection from the work of Dennis Tyfus. Publication accompanying the exhibition at de Warande in Turnhout from 30 April to 13 August 2023.
