Description
This book finally gives Anne Bonnet (1908-1960) the attention she richly deserves. The relatively unknown Belgian artist was one of the founders of La Jeune Peinture Belge and also belonged to the Kunst van Heden group. She embodies a crucial transition in modern art from figuration to abstraction. Bonnet initially painted in an animist style as a counter to an emerging Surrealism. Later, however, she stripped out a certain sentimentalism and went on in the work she produced from around 1950 to develop a highly personal form of abstract painting. Bonnet was an avid traveller and we sense the influence of her many expeditions in her art, in terms of both its composition and colour palette. The author of this first monograph devoted to Anne Bonnet, Marcel Daloze, curator of the Marthe Donas Museum in Ittre, takes the reader on a fascinating journey through Bonnet's pictorial universe. With over 200 colour reproductions and an excellently documented text, the publication offers a fascinating survey of the life and work of a painter who died too early.
