Description
The Tang Dynasty (681906) was one of the most brilliant artistic and cultural periods of the Middle Empire the Golden Age of Chinese art and literature. During this dynasty the famous Sancai ceramics (tri-colour glazed ceramics) were produced. This book presents a selection of objects from the private Bryan Collection, which contains some of the finest examples of Sancai ceramics in the world. This unique selection of Tang Sancai ceramics comes from the imperial tombs, or the tombs of the high dignitaries of the empire. They are presented in four grand ensembles: riders, figurines, mounts and vessels, accompanied by four essays that bring to light their fabrication technique, their function as funeral objects, as well as their role as ambassadors of the dynasty. This book invites you to discover this dynamic and prosperous age through an artform whose examples have lost nothing of their brilliance.
