Description
"He rescues the stories that no one recalls
He unravels histories, large and small
And he collects portraits
That are of us all." WANNES CAPPELLE
The artist Stefaan De Croock (1982), alias Strook, attracts wide international acclaim with his layered collages, sculptures and installations. His central theme can be reduced to 'time', a theme that is reflected in the rough, patinated materials he uses in his work. In many cases, the material of choice is wood. "Old, weathered materials have something magical for me. They emanate a certain spontaneity that is impossible to recreate. The colours, the paint, the relief… They are a visible record of everything the material has ever gone through. You can truly see time." This book is a first introduction to his oeuvre and offers a fascinating glimpse of his work over recent years.
As part of the 'Mind the Artist' project by Musea Brugge, work by Strook will be on show from 30 October 2021 to 6 March 2022 at various historic locations throughout the city.
